MRT Laboratories, Inc. in addition to performing RAST, has added the technology of Hitachi MAST Immunosystems to identify allergen specific IgE sensitivities.

MAST Panels include 36 Pre-Selected IgE Specific Allergens.

Overview

The MAST allergen specific IgE assay employs a MASTPETTE which contains segments of cellulose thread, each with an allergen chemically bonded to it. MAST utilizes an enzyme-labeled anti-IgE antibody and photoreagents. The light emitted by the chemical reaction of these reagents is measured by a CLA-1 Luminometer and reported in Luminometer Units (LU).

MRT Labs has determined that the MAST assay correlates well with RAST

Advantages

The primary advantage of this system is the volume requirement. This may be of importance to pediatric patients.
MAST offers a pediatric comprehensive panel which includes inhalents and foods requiring only 1.5 ml of serum.
Test requests are simplified due to the pre-selected panels.
Cost effective method for identifying allergic patients without the need for costly referrals.
