Within the IgG class the order of IgG subclasses is IgG1>IgG2>IgG3>IgG4. Adult total IgG and IgG subclass levels are reached by age 16, in the absence of any immunological disorder.

IgG1 subclass deficiency is associated with pyogenic infection and progressive lung disease; deficiency of IgG2 subclass - with bacterial infection, recurrent acute respiratory infection; impaired lung function; susceptibility to otitis media; deficiency of IgG3 - with recurrent respiratory tract infections, frequent episodes of fever, sore throat and muscle pain; deficiency of IgG4 - with severe, recurrent pyogenic infections- usually pulmonary atopic disease.
