Immunoglobulins G,A,M, (Nephelometry) ...ImmunoglobulinsImmunoglobulin G In normal adults IgG constitutes approximately 75 % of the total serum immunoglobulins. IgG is divided into four subclasses, IgG1, 2,3 and 4, which show considerable differences in their properties. Normal serum levels vary with age. Raised serum levels are associated with chronic liver disease, autoimmune diseases, parasitic diseases, and chronic infections. Reduced levels may be associated with protein-losing syndromes, pregnancy, non-IgG myeloma and Waldenstrom’s macroglobulinemia. Immunoglobulin A IgA is the major Immunoglobulin class of sero-mucous secretions, part of the defense system for external body surfaces. Normal serum levels of IgA vary with age. Raised IgA serum levels are associated with breast feeding, chronic infection, liver diseases RA with high titers of RF, SLE, Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome and Gamma A-myeloma. Reduced levels may be associated with hereditary telangiectasia, type III dysgammaglobulinemia, malabsorption, non-IgA myeloma, AID, Waldenstrom’s macroglobulinemia.Immunoglobulin M IgM is the first class of immunoglobulins synthesized in response to particulate antigens. Normal serum levels are dependent on age. Raised serum levels are associated with hepatitis, myeloma, Waldenstrom’s macroglobulinemia and other infections. Reduced levels can occur in protein-losing syndromes, non-IgM myeloma, infancy, early childhood.
